Custom Colca Valley Tour 4 Days and Sandboarding Tour In Arequipa

Wilmar, the owner of Peru Breathtaking, is only 24 years old, but already one of the best guides in Peru. He did an outstanding job organizing our four-day trip to the sandboarding dunes and the colca canyon. Already while preparing the trip, Wilmar was very diligent and efficient in asnwering all our questions. He made everything possible to make our journey confortable, planning every detail of the trip. He allowed us to discover wonderful places, outside the ''touristic'' spots. He was very flexible with the timing, accomodating the agenda to the wished and needs of the family. The children loved sandboarding and watching the condors!

Superbe organisation.

Excelente tour! Rafting y Colca :: Agosto 2013

Colca Canyon Tour - Full Day + Rafting Chili River

Super recomendado!!!

Chachani Volcano Downhill Tour :: August 2013

Writers test Peru Breathtaking Trips by biking down an ultra volcano: Chachani volcano has an altitude of 6,057 meters but I prefer the ring of that in feet; 19,872 feet. This is not for the faint or physically weak of heart. You start your descent on the rocky and at times sandy or washboard laden two-track at 4700 breathtaking meters above sea level. Chachani's summit is covered in snow and ice and scree and this is the point that the support 4x4 can't go beyond which is good because I couldn't have either.

Wilmar Diaz (front rider in photo being pursued by a writer) is the owner of http:// www.peru-breathtaking-trips .com/ and is an expert adventure guide (biking, hiking, ATV, sandboarding) with a contagious smile and excellent English.

You get your tour of flora and fauna on Chachani, and photo ops of neighbouring Misti Volcano, on your drive up so that you can rocket the downhill (or gingerly pick your way) but good luck not being dangerously distracted by the breathtaking view.

The trip starts in Arequipa at 8:00 AM and ends around 3:00 PM and costs $75 US per person with a minimum of 2 riders. Wilmar provides good downhill bikes, pads, helmets and his support driver on our outing was a charismatic surfer, mountain biker and white water rafter.

I give Wilmar's tour two thumbs and two big toes up. I made sure I could give the "big toes up" sign before I typed thatI can, can you? I can't lick my elbow, though.

Peru Breathtaking Trips rocks the volcano. (Here's Wilmar's Facebook page as well: https://www.facebook.com/ PeruBreathtakingTrips )

Colca Tour and sand boarding :: July 2013

*Sandboarding Tour In Arequipa - Half Day + Trekking Colca Canyon-3 days + Rafting Chili River *

Wilmar did a great job planning and executing our five day adventure in Arequipa which included one day of rafting, three days of trekking the colca canyon and one more day of sandboarding. Wilmar's attention to detail was apparent throughout the trip. He hired a mule to trek into the colca canyon alongside us in order to help carry some snacks and drinks for our trek. The mule also carried some meat so that we could eat some much needed protein when we were in the valley. When a restaurant we were eating at ran out of juice, he quickly ran down to the nearest corner store to pick up some more for us. On the last day we were sharing a van transport with a few other groups in order to get around chivay and to get back to arequipa. While in Chivay, our group finished lunch early and were waiting on the other groups to head over to the hot springs. Wilmar offered to call a cab instead of wait for the other groups in order to maximize our time at the hot springs. During our sandboarding trip he again provided drinks and snacks. Sandboarding with him was great as he asks the driver to drive us to the top of the hill multiple times so we did not have to hike up as much. His English was excellent. He is a joy to be around and it was also nice to see him help out a few other travelers that were not in our group. Would highly recommend his services to anyone planning a trip to Arequipa.

Excellent Tours in Arequipa, GREAT English Guide :: July 2013

*Sandboarding Tour In Arequipa - Half Day + Trekking Colca Canyon-3 days + Rafting Chili River *

We booked 3 activities with Peru Breathtaking Trips (rafting, a 3d/2n Colca Canyon trek, and sandboarding) and were very pleased with everything.

Our guide Wilmar (also the owner) was excellent and spoke by far the best English of anyone we met in Peru over a 2 week vacation. This greatly enhanced our experience as there were never any large communication errors as can often occur with most guides/tour companies.

Overall customer service was also top notch as Wilmar always did what would be best for the customer. For example, on the 2nd night of the Colca trek, an unexpected earthquake and subsequent rock slides ended up destroying some of the hiking path out of the canyon; however, Wilmar ensured that we made it out of the canyon safely and still managed to adjust the rest of the day's scheduling to fit in some time at the nearby hot springs to end off the trip.

The rafting was outsourced to another tour group, but was excellent and we got a great price with the bundle. Sandboarding was a unique experience and Wilmar took the time to take pictures and videos for our group of 4.

Overall, we have nothing but positive things to say and would definitely recommend to anyone looking to plan activities in/around Arequipa.

Awesome trip :: July 2013

Sandboarding Tour In Arequipa - Half Day

Decided to stop off at Arequipa on the way out of Peru to Bolivia to try sandboarding as we had never done it before. Wilmar, the guide couldn´t have been friendlier, he picked us up from the hostal right on time and made sure we had enough water. We first went to a small dune where he patiently showed us how to use the boards, how to stop, etc! and nopt until we were comfortablwe did he take us up to higher dunes. I would recommend this trip to anyone looking to do something a bit different!!

Excellent tour, customer service and value :: June 2013

Colca Canyon Tour - 2 Days + City Tour of Arequipa

I recently returned from a trip to Peru where in two weeks I visited several venues. I took a three-day tour of Aeriquipa and the Colca Canyon with Peru Breathtaking Trips. Owner Wilmar Diaz was my guide, and Wilbert was our driver. I had made contact with Wilmar after my original Peru plans to do a whitewater expedition was cancelled. As a photographer, I was looking for great opportunities and diversity, having already made plans for Machu Picchu/Huayna Picchu and the Amazon jungle. Wilmar was very patient and offered many possibilities for the window of time I still had remaining. When I was considering going to the Colca Canyon, he said it was a must-see venue for a trip to Peru. He was right, and I'm glad I listed to him. I was picked up at the airport in Arequipa, and we visited many incredible sites/museums within the city. Wilmar arranged for my hotel stay, two nights in Arequipa at a very nice place, and a night in Chivay where we departed from to visit the canyon. On our way to the Chivay and the Colca Canyon, we stopped at many venues, including unscheduled stops to take advantage of photographic opportunities. Wilmar was extremely knowledgeable about all the amazing things we saw. There wasn't a question I had he didn't know the answer to. I kept a notepad to write down along with the image number what exactly I was photographing. He was very kind to write down some of the longer Spanish names of things since my Spanish is virtually non-existent. His English, however, was excellent. The entire time with Wilmar and Peru Breathtaking Trips was stress-free. He had all the arrangements at all venues lined up, and his price included entry fees to the venues, hotel and several meals. The experience was an extremely good value, and I learned so much about Peru and everything we came across on the expedition. I couldn't recommend more highly a tour company as I had an extremely satisfying experience. And even though he has no control over if/how many condors will show up at the Mirador Cruz del Condor (north of Chivay at the mouth of the Colca Canyon), we saw many the day we visited and I was quite happy with my photos at not only this venue but every other place we stopped on the tour. Keep up the great work Wilmar. You and your company know how to take care of people!!!

Great sand boarding experience :: July 2013

Sandboarding Tour In Arequipa - Half Day

My two 12 year old children and I went sand boarding with Wilmar about an hour outside Arequipa and had a blast. We arranged it all very last minute with Wilmar via email and he was super helpful. None of us has been sand boarding before, but he showed us how, started on a small dune and worked our way up to much larger, and he seemed to have almost as much fun as we did. Off-roading in their 4 WD Toyota was nearly as exciting. Wilmar also took pictures for us and emailed them which was great because you definitely don't want to have your camera in all that sand. Cool landscape - like the moon. This is worth a try and you're in great hands with Wilmar.

This is what mountain bikes are made for :: May 2013

Chachani Volcano Downhill Tour

My girlfriend cycled down a volcano in Bali, loved it and decided we would do it in Peru. However in Bali she cycled down a smooth tarmac road. This little outing was slightly different in that the majority of the route is proper rocky dirt track.

We were picked up from our hostel at 8am and taken to a garage to pick up our bikes. All the bikes were in a well maintained condition. From there we had a 2 hour 30 minute journey out of town, and up Mount Chachani, along a very bumpy road to 15,700 feet. The view was breathtaking, literally.

We began our descent and immediately picked up speed. The track was seriously bumpy and I felt fear but this soon past as I got the hang of it. Before this day I had not been on a bike for 10+ years. My girlfriend also got a shock because she was expecting a nice flat road. She hung in too and in no time we really started having fun.

There were some short cuts, that required more experience than we had but I endeavoured to try one of the easier ones. Lots of fun.

We took a few breaks on the 45km descent, where we were given fruit, biscuits and liquids.

The last 4 or 5 km was flat road which was a nice exhilarating treat to finish on.

The whole experience was amazing and we really felt like we had achieved something when we got down. I would recommend it to anyone even with little or no experience but it was harder than expected.

The tour guides all spoke good English and were very nice, enlightening us with random information about the history of the mountains on the way down.

A great way to spend the day and see Arequipa from another point of view. Well worth it!

Downhill Mountain Biking on Chachani is Awesome! :: April 2013

Chachani Volcano Downhill Tour

This trip was a blast. We started at 4,700M and biked for 45 kilometers all the way down. My girlfriend and I were different levels, but the guides could accommodate both of us. We were provided snacks and water on the trip, so we had energy the whole way. Even though both of us experienced some altitude sickness in Cusco, we both felt fine the whole way down Chachani.

The mountain biking has a nice casual (but fun) path down the roadway and a steeper "shortcut" route.

Wilmar was a great host and met us in our hotel (Sonesta Posada) the night before to go over details with us. Tito, the guide was also great at showing us (me - as my GF took the roadway down) the cool shortcuts where we could really fly. It is best to have some downhill mountain biking experience for these. Although the "shortcuts" are not the level of the Whistler bike park, they are still fun enough to get the adrenalin up. I even bailed once.

A cautionary note that even on the roadway you can get some real speed and it can be bumpy at times. My GF did not have a ton of experience, but she still did great. It would be advisable for you to have at least biked down a bumpy dirt path before.

You should do this trip for a few reasons:
1) The view is incredible.
2) You can tick off "biking down a volcano" from your bucket list
3) Might as well get your adrenaline up.
4) If you are experienced enough to go, and don't go, you will regret it.

Cheers,

Paul & Tammy - Canada

An exhilarating day of sand boarding awesomeness :: December 2012

Sandboarding Tour In Arequipa - Half Day

My fiancee and I had heard amazing things about sandboarding and been dying to try. we found wilmar on trip advisor and contacted him based on his amazing reviews. he was very prompt in responding and made the whole process so easy! he and his brother picked us up at our hotel and were amazing guides (with impeccable english! but they let me practice some spanish too :). i was nervous to try the boarding since i had never done anything like it before, but they were so patient and before long i was tromping up to the top of the dunes, loading my board up with wax, and barreling down the dune! it was a blast and i would do it again in a heartbeat. my one bit of advice: do the half day, and go in the morning! in the afternoon the sand gets blazing hot, so our last run down was a little steamy!

Colca Canyon Tour - Full Day

Colca Canyon visit with a great guide! :: December 25/26/27 - 2012

Puno - Colca and Arequipa Tour - 3 Days

We were picked up by our guide Wilmar from Puno and travelled by mini-van to the Colca Canyon for a private tour for a couple of days. There were 3 of us in the group, and we had just finished the 4 day Inca trail a couple of days before, and now continued to embark on the southern part of our travels in Peru.

(For those travelling from Puno to Arequipa who want a more flexible schedule than the bus services offered, hiring a car service as part of the package as we had could be a good option, especially if there are a few in the group to split the expense.)

Along our 5-6 hour journey, Wilmar regaled us with interesting historical and cultural anecdotes about the people, and the flora and fauna from every region. We immediately appreciated his English proficiency as we learned that he spent several years at a university in Arequipa to earn his tourism degree, which made interacting with him a pleasure.

After a night's rest at our Hotel (Colca Lodge), we were picked up the next morning and driven to see the condors, at La Cruz del Condor. Fortunately, we were blessed with the ideal condor gliding weather, as we were able to see 3 or 4 condors in a matter of less than an hour, and some flew within several feet of us. After lunch and returning to the hotel, we went on a light guided hike to Yanque. As we were still suffering from the effects of the strenuous Inca trail, Wilmar was very accommodating and understanding during our hike as we definitely took less than a thunderous pace!

The next day, we headed back to Arequipa, and en route we dropped into Chivay for a quick visit to the main square and the market.

Even though we only had a couple of days at the Canyon, with the help of Wilmar, we were able to soak in some of the culture and marvel at the unending stunning vistas. Certainly, our time was much enriched by our humorous and affable guide, who was always quick with a smile or story. Spending time interacting with him at our lunches and bus rides became as much of a highlight as any other sites on the trip!

So, without hesitation, I highly recommend Wilmar and Peru Breathtaking Tours to anyone planning a trip to Peru.

Buen Viaje!

Best guide! Great trip. :: September - 2012

Colca Canyon Tour - 2 Days

I did an overnight Colca Canyon trip with Peru Breathtaking Trips in September 2012, and I can honestly say Wilmar was the most delightful and professional guide I have ever had. I was a tour guide when I was at Uni and Wilmar's knowledge, positivity and spirit made me kind of embarrassed about how I used to be!

Overall, the tour was very well organised and packed a lot into the limited time we had. The only downside was the accommodation which was very basic and a little cold, but apart from that, a great option!

The best Colca guide you will find. Thanks Wilmar

Colca Canyon Trekking - 3 Days

Wilmar is awesome! :: July 7/8 - 2012

Colca Canyon Tour - 2 Days

My husband and I went on an overnight trip to Colca Canyon with Wilmar as our guide. From start to finish, Wilmar provided an excellent experience, and by the end of the trip we'd felt like we'd made a friend. Not only did we get all of the normal tour stuff you can find anywhere (info on local areas as we travelled from spot to spot, photo opportunities, etc.,) but Wilmar also made a point to encourage us to try new things like eat sweet and sour varieties of roadside cactus, and to spend time socializing and getting to know us. We were appreciative of of recommendations he gave us for Macchu Picchu and the Cusco legs of our trip to boot! Can't recommend him (and Peru Breathtaking Trips) highly enough.

Colca Canyon Trekking - 3 Days

We (a couple in the thirties) did a 3 day hiking tour in the Colca Canyon. Everything was perfectly organized. Wilmar guided us safely up and down the mountains and always chose very good hostels and restaurants for us. He also exlained a lot about the area, plants and local traditions. So we learned many interesting things. We had a great time with him, which we will never forget.

Peru Runde-Reise :: June 2012
